Meeting data sharing requirements

Many funders and journals are implementing policies and requirements for sharing research data.  The ODC-TBI is here to help!  

Starting in 2023, NIH will require a Data Management and Sharing plans (DMS) for all submitted proposals. Two key features of the DMS are adhering to community standards and sharing your data through a trusted data repository. The ODC-TBI is a community-governed standards-compliant data repository that ensures your data for sharing that can be an integral part of your DMS. The ODC-TBI is compliant with NIH recommendations for data repositories and is listed on the NIH guide to Data Repositories. ODC-TBI is community governed and implements standards and recommendations approved by the PRECISE project (PRE Clinical Interagency reSearch resource), a project to establish standards and best practices for improving the rigor and reproducibility of pre-clinical TBI research.  

ODC-TBI is on the NLM list of recommended specialist repositories for TBI and is recommended by NINDS for pre-clinical TBI data.

We’ve assembled some materials that can be used to help prepare your proposals:

• A sample data management and sharing plan with helpful hints and language that can be used to meet NIH proposal submission requirements

• Help with estimating costs associated with data management and sharing.  Currently there is no cost to publish your data in ODC-TBI but data management and sharing do require effort and resources on your part and you can request funds for these activities  in your NIH proposal.
